Welcome to the world of the blog . . .

So… My first blog!

I am 2 weeks into my masters in Freelance Photography at Birmingham City University, I felt I was ready for a challenge, to get myself out of my comfort zone and put myself in the running for the career I want.

I come from a Fine Art background where photography became a regular feature in my creative processes. Since graduating I have been gaining interest and experience in sports photography, some may see sports photography and fine art at opposite ends of the spectrum but they are two things that I love, enjoy and come together in elements of my photography.

Here is a few images of my local rugby team, Norton RFC I shot last weekend...

And a couple from a swimming gala this week

These are some of the ones I like in terms of action and 'the moment' though I wanted to get more shots of the atmosphere too.
I sometimes feel limited to what I can shoot at a sporting events, I think mainly as the majority of the sports photography I have done has been for sales (make sure you get a shot of everybody so they can buy it on the day).
This week I am shooting a West Midlands League football match for online publication 'Serie Z' which provides coverage and news of the matches and the league. I have been asked to shoot images that capture elements about it that are 'non league' (shouting managers, tumbledown changing rooms) I am looking forward to shooting with a different approach, being able to add my creativity and get a different kind of sports image.
